The importance of exotic mite surveillance in Australian beekeeping

Rod Bourke, NSW Bee Biosecurity Officer, says an important part of his work is preparing beekeepers to manage exotic mites such as varroa and tropilaelaps in case they establish in Australia. He does this by training and encouraging beekeepers to monitor their hives for these mites, even though they are not here!
