Surveying Xylella fastidiosa vectors in Europe
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) mandate on plant pest surveillance involves providing scientific advice, establishing a network of plant pest surveillance, and developing a toolkit to help EU Member States (MSs) design and implement statistically sound, risk-based surveys for quarantine pests.
This document was prepared to guide the European member states to survey the non-EU Cicadomorpha vectors of Xylella fastidiosa regulated as Union quarantine pests [1,3] by using the following pest survey cards (PSCs):
1. Pest survey card on non-EU Cicadomorpha (leafhopper and treehopper) vectors of Xylella fastidiosa (EFSA et al., 2026a). It includes 42 taxa belonging to Cicadellidae and Membracidae families;
2. Pest survey card on non-EU Cicadomorpha (spittlebug) vectors of Xylella fastidiosa (EFSA et al., 2026b). It includes 6 taxa belonging to Aphrophoridae and Clastopteridae families.
