EOI – Dipteran Identification and Taxonomy in the Digital Age Workshop
The Western Australian Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) is hosting a workshop titled Dipteran Identification and Taxonomy in the Digital Age, funded by the Plant Surveillance Network Australasia-Pacific (PSNAP).
The workshop will take place at the Zoology Department Building 420, University of Western Australia on Monday, 12 February - Friday, 16 February 2024.
The workshop aims to:
- address current gaps in Dipteran surveillance methods, identification and taxonomy skills in Australia
- focus on the existing surveillance techniques used to collect and monitor key biosecurity groups of flies and morphological identification of Diptera
- address questions regarding efficacy of other surveillance methodologies such as triaging and identification from digital images using MyPestGuide® data.
Examples of resources that will be explored include:
ELIGIBILITY
Participants require experience in entomology and are preferred to be:
- triage officers (including MyPestGuide® triage) and frontline services officers dealing with enquiries (photos and samples) from the public and other staff from their departments
- biosecurity officers and their managers who have experience in entomology or carry out general surveillance
- diagnostic officers
- government or industry officers involved in diagnostics and/or surveillance.
